Biographical and Historical Note
Hales Chapel Baptist Church was organized in the northeastern section of Johnston County, N.C. on July 21, 1918. The people in the community bought the Hales school house and called for a presbytery to constitute them into a Baptist church. There were 27 charter members. A. P. Parrish, Clerk, reported 15 males and 19 female members and a Sunday School when they joined the Johnston Baptist Association in 1918. There is a seventeen page, 50th Anniversary history of the church written that chronicles the years from 1918 to 1968 entitled History of Hales Chapel Baptist Church. It was published in 1968.
Collection Overview
The contents of these records include minutes of church conferences from March 8, 1941 to December 13, 1970. These include membership lists, the church constitution, lists of church officers, association letters, financial records, and obituaries. Other church records include a history of the church by Mrs. B. Jaye Pearce.
