Biographical and Historical Note
Brown's Baptist Church was constituted on Saturday, December 25, 1830 by Elders T. Crocker and W. Hudgins. The church had formerly been an arm of the Reedy Creek Church and then Tanner's Meeting House. There were four males and seven females as constituent members. Elder Willoughby Hudgins was chosen pastor and James Southerland was elected clerk. James S. Smithwick and John Daniel were ordained as deacons. In 1838 twelve anti-missionary members withdrew. The clerk of the church was one of those withdrawing and took the church records with him.
