Biographical and Historical Note

Madison First Baptist Chruch was organized by a presbytery appointed by the Beulah Baptist Association on August 1, 1841. The presbytery was composed of Elders Stephen Pleasant, John Robertson, and George W. Purify accompanied by Calvin Graves and Thomas W. Graves. They were to "inquire into the expediency of constituting a Baptist Church at that place. If they deem it expedient, they are advised to constitute a church of our faith and order" on November 6, 1841. Madison Baptist Church was listed in the 1842 Beulah minutes as a member with no notice of admission. J.M. Lindsey, M. Stamps, and J. Churchill were delegates.
