Biographical and Historical Note

Dutchman's Creek Baptist Church was organized Oct. 5, 1772, with ten constituent members. William Cook was elected pastor. On Dec. 16, 1790, the church was reorganized as Eaton's when the Flat Rock Church recorded in its minutes "that the members of the lower end of our church bounds on Dutchman's Creek be set apart as an arm of 'the sd. church.'" There were seventeen members at the constitution of the new church. Only three members were from the old Dutchman's Creek. Elder William Cook, the founder and only minister of Dutchman's Creek and one of the ministers of Flat Rock in 1790 was another link with the earlier organization. Elders William Petty and Andrew Baker were the presebytery for the second organization.
