Biographical and Historical Note

Asheville Baptist Church was constituted Feb. 28, 1829 as Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. The church changed its name in 1852 and became Asheville Baptist Church. In 1887 it became First Baptist Church, Asheville. This church has been a member of the French Broad (1830-38); Salem (1838-82) and Buncombe (1882 to present) Baptist associations.
