Biographical and Historical Note

Hephzibah Baptist Church was constituted on December 30, 1809 by Elders John Purefoy of Wake Cross Roads and John Gulley of Rocky Springs Church in Johnston County. The ten charter members were: William Broadwell, Henry Jordon, Reuben Jordon, Lott Robertson, Martin Hall, Savina Bagwell, Christiana Bagwell, Mary Jordon, Sophia Hocut, and Martha Hall. John Purefoy was elected pastor.

Collection Overview

Records consist of minutes from Dec. 30, 1809 to May 2, 1925 and a membership/roll book, 1895-1911.
