William Phillips Biddle was a Baptist pastor in the New Bern-Lenoir County area of North Carolina. The William Phillips Biddle Papers is a collection of biographical information, a manuscript, and reference cards.

Biographical and Historical Note

William Phillips Biddle was born in Princess Ann County, Virginia in 1787. Biddle devoted himself to the Christian Ministry at an early age and in 1808 he was ordained as a Baptist minister. From there he travelled with his ministry to eastern parts of Virginia and North Carolina where he met and married Mary N. Simpson of Craven County in 1810. Biddle was the President of the Baptist State Convention for several years and he was one of the earliest and most liberal contributors to Wake Forest College and served upon its Board of Trustees for many years.
