title
Impressions of Moral Considerations and Actions: An Agreement Approach
author
Barranti, Maxwell Louis
abstract
Judges reported on how acquaintances (e.g., friends, family members, and co-workers) typically behave and the considerations behind their behavior in a number of morally relevant commonly experienced situations. Acquaintances also reported on their own typical behaviors and the considerations underlying them in the exact same situations. There was significant and positive self-other agreement for both ratings of ostensibly moral behaviors and ostensibly moral considerations in a diverse sample of 280 judge-acquaintance pairs. The existence of agreement has implications for the existence, process of forming, shared understanding and accuracy of moral impressions.
