Biographical and Historical Note

The history of Mount Hermon Baptist Church dates back to April of 1848, when the "Trustees for the Society of Missionary Baptists of Mount Hermon Meeting House," namely: James N. Strayhorn, Alvis Durham, Thomas S. Faucett, bought 3.9 acres of land in order to build a church. A few months later, in June of 1848, Mount Hermon Baptist Church was organized on that land.

This collection contains the records of Mount Hermon Baptist Church on 6 reels of microfilm. These records include the church's minutes, its board of deacons' minutes, and church newsletters, as well as other records including directories, scrapbooks, and photographs. The collection is organized into 4 series: Church Minutes, Board of Deacons Minutes, Church Newsletters, and Other Church Records. Church minutes may be found on reels 1 and 5. Board of Deacons Minutes are on reel 5. Church newsletters are on reels 2, 3 and 4. Other Church Records are on reel 6.

These minutes also contain the church's rules of decorum, declaration of faith, male and female membership rolls, summary of church statistics, a record of church officers a record of ministers, and committee reports.)

Directories: The directories contain addresses of church members, committees, organizations, officers, etc. for 1969-1976; 1978-1986. Pictorial Directories: The pictorial directories contain the photographs and addresses of church members for c. 1970, 1981. Scrapbooks: The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, photographs, and other information compiled on church members and activities from 1961-1985, as well as information that was built and dedicated in 1984. Book of Remembrance: The book of rembrance contains the history of the church, donors to the church, class photographs, and other historical related materials as of 1962.)
