Matthews First Baptist Church is located in southeastern Mecklenburg County, Morning Star Township. This church was organized on October 21, 1877, at the residence of the Reverend E. C. Williams. The name was later changed to First Baptist Church. This church has been a part of the following Baptist associations: Rocky River, Brown Creek, Union, Mecklenburg, and Metrolina. Records consist of minutes of church conferences, membership rolls, correspondence, and treasurer's records.

Matthews First Baptist Church is located in southeastern Mecklenburg County, Morning Star Township. This church was organized on October 21, 1877, at the residence of the Reverend E. C. Williams. The name was later changed to First Baptist Church. This church has been a part of the following Baptist associations: Rocky River (1877-1880), Brown Creek (1881-1883), Union (1884-1887), Mecklenburg (1887-1993), and Metrolina (1993-present).
