- Thomas E. Mullen received his B.A. (1950) in History from Rollins College, and his M.A. (1951) and Ph.D (1959) in History from Emory University. After serving in the army for 21 months, he received a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the University of London. Dr. Mullen was a member (1957-2000) of the Wake Forest University History faculty and served as Dean of the College (1968-1995). In 1995, he was honored with Wake Forest University's Medallion of Merit and was also named an honorary alumnus. This oral history interview includes Dr. Mullen sharing about his childhood growing up near Memphis, his selection of history as a career, and joining the Wake Forest faculty. He also describes his experiences as Dean of the College, such as interviewing candidates, the arrival of Ed Reynolds and the integration of the campus, and Dr. Maya Angelou's first visit to Wake Forest in 1973.
