Joseph (Joe) Clontz received his B.A. (1964) from Wake Forest College and a B.D. (1967) from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He married Eva L. Pearce on July 31, 1965. He worked with the Baptist ministry throughout his career, including as an intern and assistant, Campus Minister at Western Carolina University (1967-1970) and UNC-Chapel Hill (1971-1984). He also traveled on missions to Nicaragua (1964) and Togo, West Africa (1981-1982). He served as the Director, Volunteer Student Ministries (1984-1998) for the Baptist State Convention (BSC) and as a Student Ministry Consultant (1999-2000) for the BSC Mission Growth Evangelism Group, Campus Ministry Team before retiring. This oral history interview includes Clontz's memories of growing up in North Carolina, his involvement and career with the Baptist State Convention, and attending Wake Forest and meeting his wife, Eva. He also discusses meeting international students, rooming with African student Ed Reynolds and his family's response, international mission work, and changes in the Baptist State Convention.
