description
G. William (Bill) Joyner was born in Asheboro, NC, and graduated from Wake Forest University with a B.A. (1966) in English. He played basketball for the Demon Deacons and joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He completed an M.A. at Wake Forest, also in English, and taught for a year at Appalachian State. He was hired by the Alumni/Development Office and worked closely with Presidents Tribble, Scales, and Hearn. He retired as Vice President for University Advancement after which he served as a consultant. This oral history interview includes Joyner's memories of his undergraduate years at Wake Forest, the Vietnam Era, and working during the early years of development for the University. He shares stories about Wake Forest Presidents Tribble, Scales, and Hearn, and receiving the gift of the R. J. Reynolds World Headquarters Building and other advancement projects.
