Biographical and Historical Note

Hancocks Baptist Church was constituted on July 23, 1808 by members dismissed from Redbank Baptist Church. William P. Biddle became pastor, September 1818. This church has been a member of the Neuse I [E] (1808-1844), Union (now Eastern, 1844-52) and Pamlico I [E] (1851-circa 1872) Baptist associations. Not listed in Pamlico I after 1872. Joined Union Association in 1844.

  • Minute book (1808-1850) Box 1 Volume 1 (Church covenant 1816 and rules in conference. The number of members dismissed, excommunicated, deceased, baptized, and revived during the years 1808-1812. Death of Brother Jack, August 4, 1826. Death of Cloe Roundtree, Jan 4, 1829. Delegates to the Union Association- Aug 1844. Loose picture of a man, signed H. Clay. Names and numbers of members at Hancock after constituting a church at Dawson in 1850. Charter members listed.)
