Collection Overview

This collection contains minutes of church conferences from November 22, 1884 to February 21, 1914, financial records, membership lists, correspondence, and some loose papers, 1905-12, undated [broken series].

Collection Inventory

  • Minute book  (1884-1914) box 1 volume 2 (14 articles of faith listed; rules of order read sept. 1893- changed "dancing" to "gambling" in the 10th article. The first set of Rules of Order was lost. The church wronte a new order and approved them after a few alterations. Th in Oct. of 1893, the clerk announced that he had found the old rules. "It was moved and seconded that teh new rules be rescinded and the old ones be continued as the Rules of this church." Motion carried. Lists male and female members separately- later removed to page 13. In nov. 1904, male members assessed $42 and female members $14 to pay the pastor's salary- If not pay assessment, charged with covetousness. Pastor's salary raised in 1908 to $60 per ? then raised to $75 by another motion. Ordination of Brother W.M. Jacobson- gave him a "license to preach the gospel of teh Son of God"- Sept. 1893. Loose list of male members of Stony Hill Baptist Church in 1907. Roll was always called and the minutes read at every conference. Moved and seconded that the deacons meet once each month to discuss church business and to report said business every 3 months. Motion carried.)
