- description
- Ameen Faizi is a First Year student at Wake Forest University who is currently undecided, but is considering a degree in either Computer Science or in the Pre-Med track. Faizi was born in North Carolina and raised in a devout Muslim home, as his father is the Indian equivalent of a priest. Islam never played a role in his life outside of the home and was not a large part of his social life until he came to college. In this oral history, Faizi discusses the impact that the Chaplain's office chartering the Muslim Student Association (MSA) has had, as well as the impact lack of access to Halal foods on campus has on student achievement in the classroom. As Faizi states, it is very difficult for students to study and achieve on such restricted diets that they are not accustomed to eating. Faizi decided to come to Wake Forest University despite two negative experiences that his sister and brothers related to him, and said that if they could make it through, then so could he. Faizi would like to see Halal foods available on campus and more widely available around Winston-Salem, and for there to be Muslim representation in the "Play on Experiences" that First Year students attend at the beginning of the term.
