description
Ammar Idris is a Sophomore at Wake Forest University majoring in Biology and considering the pre-dental track. Idris moved to Sudan with his family when he was seven years old and returned before his ninth grade year. In this oral history Idris speaks in depth about his experiences moving between the private Muslim education he received in the US and the private Christian education he received in Sudan and then his transition to public schooling for his junior and senior years of high school. He describes the impact his paternal grandfather had on his faith experiences and how his faith serves as both a comfort and strength of will in his daily life. Before becoming a student at Wake Forest University, Idris attended a Friday sermon at Howard to help him make his decision on schools; that day, the Chaplain of Wake Forest was giving a guest sermon at Howard University and spoke to him about the Muslim population at Wake.
