Sermon regarding the unseen, specifically heaven and hell. He reads from the Gospel of Luke, chapter 13, the story of Lazarus. Hell is emphasized more than heaven in the gospels, in an attempt to describe the woes of living without God. The preacher suggests Hell is not a reference to a literal place in eternity alone but simply living without God, in direct contrast to traditional Baptist beliefs. The preacher suggests death is just a change in circumstances like a hinge that depends upon a man's choices. He illustrates this by hiding a pen knife in his hand and asking the audience to believe him; belief spans the chasm. Only repentance will keep one from the place of torment but he emphasizes the words "in like manner" as indicating disbelief is the place of suffering. He concludes that this is the motivation to soul winning, to avert tragedy in lives.
