description
In Convention business meeting, a man reviews the changes being made to the bylaws of the Baptist State Convention. He reads the article of changes and discusses which committee proposed the changes. The specific bylaws' content regarding placement, or not, of pastors in churches is discussed, including vocally from the floor, on whether pastoral candidates should be selected by a personnel committee or a secretary as a resource for churches. At the heart of the matter is church autonomy in choosing its pastor, contrary to denominational assignment. The motion is tabled indefinitely by the call of the moderator for further study. A lengthy budget is summarized.
This project was supported by a Recordings at Risk grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR). The grant program is made possible by funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
