- Kathleen Barnes is the owner of 6th and Vine, a restauraunt in Winston-Salem, NC. As thhe owner, she manages her staff and finances all operations of her business. In addition to operating 6th and Vine, Barnes teaches art history full time at Forsyth Tech. When Barnes and her staff first heard of COVID-19, they began preemptively taking steps to ensure cleanliness within their establishment by implementing more sanitization protocols. Due to her teaching position, Barnes notes that she was a bit more prepared than other local businesses for a potential shut down since she knew that classes were probably headed to an online platform after spring break. Like many businesses, 6th and Vine was forced to shut down with little time to prepare or receiving a warning. In this interview, Barnes discusses the extent of 6th and Vine's closure from her hopes of a reopening to her thoughts about the future of her restauraunt. Another important point of discussion is the application for a PPP loan. As a small business owner, Barnes is able to provide critical insight into this process and its results.
