- description
- Joshua Swift is the Public Health Director of Forsyth County, North Carolina and has been in the position since November of 2018. In this interview, Swift discusses the various challenges that Forsyth County has faced in regards to the COVID-19 outbreak. He discusses the disproportionate amount of Hispanic members of the community that have been hospitalized for COVID-19 and the health disparities that many minorities in the county experience, including a lack of access to resources and medical help. He shares that reopening should look "...not like an on-off switch, but more like a dimmer switch..." and encourages slow and steady reopenings that responsibily take the many risks into account. Swift encourages protective measures, such as mask wearing and keeping six feet of distance from others, then discusses what Forsyth county could do with additional federal funding. He shares his personal experiences with the pandemic, from going to the dentist, to getting take-out from resturants, to seeing his children engage in virtual education.
