description
The 1971 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in St. Louis begins with a welcome message by Homer Delozier. Convention President Dr. Carl Bates moderates business. Opening sermon is given by Pastor John Claypool (later prolific author and Episcopal minister) on how the prodigal son mirrors individual struggles to self recognition and the struggles of the United States. Following special music, Charlotte Pastor Carl Bates preaches on the theme "Consider our Mission" as an admonition for allowing freedom of expression of concern for the struggling nation and the world.
This project was supported by a Recordings at Risk grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR). The grant program is made possible by funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
