- description
- Black and white photograph shows Hardie E. Hughes with her five children: three sons, William Chester, Lester, and Robert, and two daughters, Luvada and Martha Ann. Hardie sits with her hands folded in her lap, with her children standing around her, boys at left and girls at right. Hardie is wearing a long-sleeved, white blouse and long, dark skirt that covers her feet. The boys are wearing dark suits with their suit coats buttoned, white button-ups, and dark neck ties. The middle son's suit is pin-striped and the shortest boy's jacket shows more of his shirt than the other boys', including the cuffs. The girls are wearing long-sleeved white dresses. The shorter girl's dress is knee-high, and she is wearing shiny, laced black shoes. The woman's and the girls' hair are parted down the middle and appear to be pulled into ties. The group appears to be in front of a crop of tall plants, possibly corn. The image is mounted on a textured material with a decorative design framing the photograph.
