J. M. (Jesse Martin) Page was ordained in 1898 and held many pastorates throughout North Carolina. From 1927 to 1933 he worked with the Baptist State Convention, where he assisted in establishing and building more than 100 churches throughout North Carolina. This collection contains notebooks of sermons and clippings dated 1909-1938.

Biographical and Historical Note
Reverend J. M. (Jesse Martin) Page was born February 22, 1877, to John Sampson Page and Margaret Ann Fisher in Cumberland, N.C. He studied at Wake Forest College (1901) and Southern Seminary, now known as Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raleigh, the Jones-Berean Bible Class, and the Raleigh Ministerial Association.
Page was ordained in 1898 and held many pastorates throughout North Carolina in towns such as, such as Stedman, Southport, Hope Mills (1902-1905), Clinton (1905-1908), Rose Hill (1908-1913), Troy (1913-1916), Hamlet (1916-1921), St. Pauls (1921-1923), and Badin (1923-1927). From 1927 to 1933 he worked with the Baptist State Convention, where he assisted in establishing and building more than 100 churches throughout North Carolina. He retired in 1940 due to illness, but continued to work in a limited capacity. He died July 14, 1953.
Page was married to Sarah "Sula" Bryant (name disupted) (1875-1967) and together they had a son, Jesse Martin Page, Jr., and three daughters, Lota, Eula, and Leta Page.
Collection Overview
This collection contains Page's notebooks, where he composed his sermons and collected clippings of relevant articles from 1909-1938. Page researched and wrote extensively about temperance and prohibition. Loose papers include programs from church and association events, notes, and clippings.
