Andrew Jackson (Jack) Crutchfield was a medical doctor in Winston-Salem, N.C., a graduate of Wake Forest College (1938) and the University of Virginia Medical School (1942), and a long-time first-aid provider at Groves Stadium. This collection documents some of Crutchfield's personal life and professional work and also contains items related to wife Margaret Grehan Crutchfield, a nurse.

Biographical and Historical Note

Andrew Jackson (Jack) Crutchfield, born on October 11, 1917, was medical doctor in Winston-Salem, N.C. Crutchfield was a graduate of Wake Forest College (1938), Bowman Gray School of Medicine (1940), and the University of Virginia Medical School (1942). He served for 20 years as a first-aid provider at Groves Stadium, work he retired from during Bill Dooley's tenure as head coach (1987-1992). Crutchfield died on May 5, 1994.

Jack was married to Margaret Greham Crutchfield, born December 19, 1917, and died April 29, 2005. She attended James Madison University (1935-1937) and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Nursing (1940). She worked as a nurse in Charlottesville and later, after the Crutchfields' move to Winston-Salem, worked occasionally in Jack's office.

Collection Overview

This collection documents some of Crutchfield's personal life and professional work. Professional related materials include a plaque from WFU and other awards, a Bowman Gray School of Medicine Community Resources for Aid in Patient Care booklet, and a 1952 Bowman Gray School of Medicine bulletin.

Personal items include planning materials for a 1990 reunion for the Bowman Gray School of Medicine class of 1940, early photographs of Jack and wife Margaret, an obituary for Margaret (1917-2005), and football game photographs, circa 1990. His Wake Forest College and Bowman Gray diplomas are the oversize items.
