Biographical and Historical Note
The Wake Forest University Ministerial Council was founded in the 1970s by a group of Wake Forest undergraduate alumni clergy, seeking fellowship and ongoing education opportunities. During its operation, the council was involved in recruiting William L. Poteat Scholarship nominations and advocating for the establishment of a Baptist-affiliated Divinity School at the University. In the 1990s, the Council relaxed its stringent membership criteria to include female and non-alumni clergy. As of 1999, the Ministerial Council's mission was "to serve the ministerial alumni and friends of the University and to represent that group within the University community, as well as to other constituencies." It appears to have dispanded since a divinity school now exists.
