Biographical and Historical Note
William Henry Harrison Lawhon was born May 16, 1841, to Leonard and Anna Dowd Lawhon in Moore County, North Carolina. In 1862, Lawhon joined the Confederate States Army , becoming a member of the Fourty-Eighth Company. He was part of the forces that surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, in April 1865. He was ordanied as a Baptist minister in 1871 and preached at churches across N.C., particularly in Chatham, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, and Richmond counties. Lawhon also served as a moderator for Sandy Creek Baptist Association for 18 years.
Lawhon married Anna (Annie) Jane Bostick (1844-1888) in 1865 and together they had seven children. After Annie's death, he married Nora Vestal in 1889 (1848-1932). Lawhon died on July 24, 1926.
