Description

Born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts in 1895, Dr. Mackie served in World War I. He graduated from Harvard in 1918. In 1931, Dr. Mackie earned a post-graduate degree at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. From 1946-1951, he was Professor of Preventive Medicine at Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Dr. Mackie's greatest achievement was in 1940 when he became director of the American Foundation for Tropical Medicine, an organization which improved the health of American troops in the tropic theaters of World War II.
