Coach Patrick Mouratoglou- A Rhetorical Analysis
Abstract
In the world of tennis, Patrick Mouratoglou is arguably the most prominent coach on the professional tour. It is especially remarkable that he had successful partnerships with both male and female athletes, which underlines his unique feel for each individual player. His most outstanding partnership was between him and Serena Williams, as the duo was able to win 10 Grand Slam tournaments together. In the following rhetorical analysis, I will examine Coach Mouratoglou’s rhetorical methods and coaching strategies. In order to do so, I will specifically look at the elements of trust, motivation and integrity – and elaborate on how he utilizes each of them in his coaching practices.
I will do so by examining different parts from the Netflix documentary “The Playbook: A Coach’s Rules for Life” and by analyzing coaching videos from his YouTube channel. Furthermore, I will shine light on his methods by using symbolic interactionism and role theory as a theoretical lens.
