This view of Main Street in Salem just north of the intersection with Academy Street captures Welfare Drugstore and the Miksch House, seen here with two second-story gables attached to the drugstore. The Miksch House was built in 1771 by Johann Matthaeus Miksch and was the home for he and his wife, Maria Christina Henrietta Petermann. The couple was granted permission by the Moravian Church to open a small shop in their house that sold candles, tobacco, and other products. The Miksch House was restored in 1960 and today is an exhibit building for Old Salem Museums & Gardens.
