Written around this photograph is, " DEC 13. 1937. STAGE COACH AT / SALEM COLLEGE. TRUNKS TO BE / LOADED ON." This stagecoach, named Hattie Butner, was purchased by Edwin T. Clemmons in 1872 for his stagecoach line based in the Clemmons area of Forsyth County. This photograph was taken during a "Romance of Transportation Pageant" that paraded the stagecoach from Old Salem to the Robert E. Lee Hotel in downtown Winston.
