Description
Winston-Salem State University students with speaker Jesse Louis Jackson on Awards Day, 1969. The Reverend Jackson was born Jesse Louis Burns in 1941 and in 1956 took his stepfather's name and became Jesse Louis Jackson. He graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 1964 and that fall entered Chicago Theological Seminary. Ordained to the ministry in 1968, he has been active in the civil rights struggle since his college days.
