Description
The stained glass windows located inside of Davis Memorial Chapel at North Carolina Baptist Hospital have significant symbols strategically placed. This photo shows the intricate window frames cut out and installed before the stained glass finished and inserted. The window over the outside entrance door depicts Mrs. Davis' favorite flower (golden dahlia), grown in her own garden and shared with patients at the hospital. The windows to the left of this photo depict the 23rd Psalm with a person's life under the care of the heavenly Shepherd. The window in the back of the chapel is "The Rose." All of the windows are made of antique, seeded German cathedral glass, which is hand-blown, kiln-fired and leaded. The specially made windows cost approximately $11,000 in 1957 and were made by the Studios of George L. Payne in New Jersey.
