Suellen Hudson graduated from Wake Forest University in 1970, majoring in Spanish. Her daughter, Emily Mitchell graduated in 2000, double majoring in Studio Art and Art History. Suellen and Emily are interviewed together in this conversation to provide a unique look into how Wake Forest has changed over the years. While each interviewee was asked the same question, they have very different responses. Suellen discusses the copious rules and regulations women students had to follow while Emily did not have to adhere to a seperate code of conduct. Both women express the benefits of joining a social society. In Suellen's case, Fideles served as a way to make friends, however, it did not prevent her from associating with girls in other societies. During Emily's tenure, societies had evolved into sororities which had become more exclusive, but she still made friends with others. Suellen also discusses the significant role Dean of Women Lu Leake played at the University and the relationship she had with her. Overall, this proves to be an interesting conversation providing insight into the changing state of the institution.en_US
