Description
Dr. Homer Paschall, assistant professor of orthopedics at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, was awarded $87,600 in grant money by the National Institutes of Health in 1965. The money was to support three years of intense research on bone formation and bone tissue. Dr. Paschall had found a new research technique that helped him visualize more clearly what was going on in the bone by combining the principles of autoradiography (the use of radioactive isotopes) along with the powerful electron microscope. Dr. Paschall was one of only five researchers in the United States that was studying the structure and function of bone cells by means of an electron microscope in the 1960s.
