dc.descriptionDr. Frederick Glass, head of the section on Emergency Medical Services at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, looks over an EKG strip with an unidentified male. A telemetry system was installed in 1980 in the emergency Department. It allowed emergency medical transporters (paramedics) to send an EKG strip to the Emergency Department so a doctor could advise the paramedics on how to stabilize a patient in the ambulance. Before 1980, walkie-talkies were used to communicate with paramedics en route to North Carolina Baptist Hospital.en_US
