Description

The cornerstone for Bowman Gray School of Medicine was laid on April 16, 1941. Some of the items placed within the stone were a bible, short sketch of the life of the late Bowman Gray, Sr. and a copy of Winston-Salem Journal and Sentinel for April 16, 1941. Pictured here from L-R are: James A. Gray, Smith Hagaman, Bess Gray Plumly (sister of the late Bowman Gray), Governor Joseph M. Broughton, Bowman Gray, Jr., Gordon Gray, and Coy C. Carpenter.
