dc.descriptionDr. William M. McKinney came to Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1959 as an intern in neurology and retired in 1997. McKinney was best known for his pioneering work with ultrasound techniques used to study the nervous system in the brain intracranial vessels, spine and nerves – called Neurosonology. Because of Dr. McKinney’s research, he is credited with developing the term Neurosonology. He also established the first laboratory in the United States that used transcranial doppler sonography neurosonography) for a means of diagnosis and treatment of patients. Dr. McKinney died on October 24, 2003.en_US
