Description

Dr. Charles L. Spurr came to Bowman Gray School of Medicine as a Professor of Medicine faculty member in 1957. In 1959, Dr. Spurr received a grant of $29,847 for use in co-operative chemotherapy studies in acute leukemia. The purpose was to develop a pattern of maximum benefit therapy. Bowman Gray School of Medicine began planning for a cancer program in the late 1960's. In 1972 the specialized Cancer Center opened and Spurr was named Director.
