Description
When the American Medical Association began closing two-year medical schools, Wake Forest College faculty started looking for other options. After many meetings, funds become available from the late Bowman Gray estate to build a new four-year medical school in Winston Salem, NC. Dr. Coy C. Carpenter accepted the position as Dean. He was responsible for the planning, organizing and moving of the new Bowman Gray School of Medicine which opened for classes in September 1941. This photo shows the Carpenters in the living room of their new permanent residence located at 615 Roslyn Avenue in Winston Salem. (L-R) Dr. Coy C.
