Shane Harris graduated from Wake Foresst in 1998 with a degree in Political Science. At the time of this interview, Harris was employed as a journalist in Washington DC. Throughout this conversation, Harris candidly recalls his experiences at the University and describes having gay friends but not coming out himself until two years following his graduation. Theater played a major role in his college experience as he made many friends through the program and joined the Anthony Aston Players. He was a part of the Lilting Banshees comedy troupe in its early years and recalls several moments with that group. Overall, Harris describes the student body as not very accepting of LGBTQ students, citing a few examples. He also details his engagement with Wake Forest following graduation including participating in the LGBTQ Alumni Conference.
