dc.descriptionJim "Catfish" Hunter greets Adrian Barham of Summerfield, a patient in Brenner Children's Hospital inside of North Carolina Baptist Hospital. Hunter was the highest paid pitcher in baseball when he signed with the New York Yankees in 1975. He also was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987. Hunter toured the hospital on May 5, 1993 as part of a "Strike Out Diabetes," the local observance of National Diabetes Month. Hunter had diabetes himself, but died in 1999 of Lou Gehrig's Disease.en_US
