Description
Mr. Bob Owen was named Purchasing Manager for the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in 1951 and retired in 1994. He is shown here with two golf gloves from professional golfer, Tony Jacklin. In August 1974, the PGA Golf Tournament was held in Clemmons, NC at Tanglewood Park. Owen was a member of the Tanglewood Golf Association and wanted be one of the 180 caddies at the famous event. Out of 550 applications, Owen was chosen and had to sweat in the hot sun, get drenched in the rain and carry the 50 to 60 pound golf bag of Jacklin, the English star. Using one ball every three holes, Jacklin finished 15th with a 15 handicap. Jacklin gave Owen a dozen, mint-conditioned golf balls from the game and two of his golf gloves.
