GENETIC VARIATION OF TYPE 2 DIABETES AND NEPHROPATHY ACROSS ETHNIC GROUPS

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a complex disease characterized by insufficient insulin secretion and action in the body. Diabetes and associated comorbidities represent significant health burdens throughout the world due to resultant direct and indirect complications. In the United States, the financial consequence of these is considerable. A great deal of effort has been dedicated to research with the goal of understanding factors mediating disease risk and progression of type 2 diabetes and associated comorbidities.
