Located in front of Davis Memorial Chapel are two huge magnolia trees. The history of both trees has been traced back to 1938 from an excerpt in the Winston-Salem Journal entitled “North Carolina Baptist Hospital/A Storied History.” Nellie Ruth Adams of Yadkinville tells of giving birth to a son, Joseph Donald Adams, right before Easter Sunday. On Easter Sunday in 1938, nurse Ethel Shore came into the maternity ward and rolled everyone’s bed over to the window. A Moravian band was playing out front of the hospital on a flat-bed truck. "I noticed two young magnolia saplings there by Hawthorne Road that had been planted and were about six to eight feet tall. It’s amazing to ride by in 1998 and see those same two magnolias still out front, standing tall and magnificent,” says Nellie Adams.
