Built in 1894 for Dr. Nathaniel Siewers, a successful physician, and his wife Eleanor de Schweinitz, Cedarhyrst is a monumental example of the Gothic Revival style in Salem. Like other buildings from the second half of the nineteenth century in Salem, Cedarhyrst is a major departure from the style and scale of the town's earlier buildings and demonstrates how Moravians of the period actively sought out new architectural concepts. In this photograph, taken from the southeast, shows the Dr. Benjamin Vierling house in the foreground and the Charles Kremer house in the background.
