Abstract

Description

Shortly before the North Carolina Baptist Hospital opened in 1923, Miss Olivia Hall served as an assistant to the hospital administrator. Upon the official opening in 1923, Miss Hall was the first employee hired and was responsible for a number of jobs including secretarial work, admitting patients, keeping charts, making out and collecting bills, keeping the books andbasically anything else that needed to be done! Shown here is Miss Olivia Hall, age 77 in 1965. She is enjoying her retirement reception after 42 years of service at the hospital. Olivia died in 1977 at the age of 89 but before passing gave the hospital full beneficiary of her estate. An "Olivia Hall" fund was set up to make it possible for the hospital to add new programs and equipment periodically and also to provide for the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment that was added.
