Address by John Lewis on the history of the early work of Baptists in America, in 1740 numbering 500 members in 23 churches, increasing in the next century to 9,385 churches with over 750,000 members. Beginning with Roger Williams, Baptists became the champion of separation of church and state and church autonomy. Dr. Albert McClellan speaks to the issue of institutionalism versus independence as a risk of spiritual bankruptcy. He states that pluralism is changing Southern Baptists, it cannot be avoided and should be accepted as it was in the New Testament Church.
