Description
Services in the Emergency Department that do not require admission or are non-life threatening are called “ambulatory care.” North Carolina Baptist Hospital opened a new Emergency Department/Ambulatory Care building on September 28, 1975, as seen in this photograph. Some of the new amenities included more bedside and portable monitoring equipment, a better arrangement of rooms which allowed observation from the nursing station, a pediatric emergency area (the only one in the state in 1975), a larger waiting room, a new communication system that allowed the ER to be in contact with ambulances and an examination room used to treat patients with highly infectious diseases.
