Description

North Carolina Baptist Hospital began forming a disaster plan committee in 1957 before disaster plans were required of a hospital. On May 17, 1958, the North Carolina Baptist Hospital ran its first disaster plan rehearsal with great success. Different centers, labeled according to type of injury to be treated, were set up and all 1,200 employees were assigned to certain treatment areas. Shown here are two unidentified female messengers and Dr. Richard Myers (far left) of the Department of Surgery. Doctors were able to easily identify each person based on their armbands for litter bearer, messenger, information clerk, record clerk, chaplain or volunteer.
